Good movie. Posted by Picasa

Love song for Bobby Long

I got to see a wonderful movie tonight. It was something that was awesome. It reminded me of my old heredity. Yes, the music was great as well. It was A love song for Bobby Long. It stared Scarlett Jo Hanson. A gal that has surpassed Liv Tyler in so many ways as far as young love starlets go. I recommend this movie to everyone.

The south has always been in my blood. The music that is. Here is an old remembrance. Something that happened two years ago. Here it is. One of my things on my online diary...

99 years young October 18, 2003

Listening to: bluegrass babies -
Feeling: kooky

Yah, so today was my family reunion. All I have to say was wow. It was a side of the fam that I usually dont get to see. My mothers, mothers side.

My great grandfather turned 99 yesterday, and so we all appended a birthday cake to the celebrations of togetherness.

It was 80 the whole day, and sunny. The air was crisp with cool breezes and the kids laughed and laughed.

Everyone crowded around the old man in the gazebo and I took some pictures. Then I sat next to him on the swing and just listened to people talk.

For a little while everyone disappeared. So there i sat with this old man who is my great grandfather, who was born in 1904.

I didnt say a thing.

I just sat there, glad to be away from the city, away from everything. There, with my great grandfather, sitting on a swing, overlooking vast fields of green sprinkled with sunny yellow flowers dotted with an occasional oak and juniper.

I wondered and pondered, but made sure I thought about nothing. We just sat and had one of life’s moments. It was more than I could ask for.

Then came the food. Then the singing. Mother made me sing my 'Rolling' song to the whole audience. I could only hope they would think it was about life and love. Which it is, if you look at it a certain way.

But then these three old women from Mississippi came out and sang the sweetest bluegrass ever an ear to hear. Ahhh.... It was oh so good, and oh so much fun. It was as though the movie soundtrack to "O' Brother Where art thou" had come to life.

All in all a good day.

One of the best.

-----That was years ago. The old man is still alive today. Ahh... Roots. Music. Its not about video games, and the online life. It's about talking, singing, and being together. Asimov might have it right. If we live long enough, we might just forget who our parents are. We might grow so much apart from everyone that we forget where we came from, and who got us there. So many people part and go away back to their corners of the earth making us believe that what we lived really was something in our dreams.

I miss life sometimes, but it's good to be reminded of what got me there. My past, and the music that still lives. Oh and the poets! That movie was like watching a Star Trek movie! So many good quotes from great authors! Ahh. It's good, for the perfect frame of mind.
